 A Classic fairy tale come to life under the brush of John Arthur. Two elves in the midst of a fantasy landscape discuss the details of boot repair. This is watercolor and pencil. ARTIST'S COMMENTS: "This study was done quickly, probably within a half hour; lay the pencils down- wash some colors on. I don't do enough of these pieces. They are simply imaginative wanderings. I don't know what will come out until I put the pencil down."

02 - Summertime

 In "Summertime" every rat has his day and this one appears to be it. The words to the classic song come to mind: Summertime, and the livin' is easy . . . the fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high . . . " ARTIST'S COMMENTS: "This is a small watercolor, maybe 6 x9 inches; a mimiature with a lot of detail."

03 - Kamloops Rainbow

 "Kamloops Rainbow" is a realistic painting of an actual fish. This beautiful salmonoid was actually caught by the artist's friend on a flyfishing excursion, photographed and released back into the water. John then came home and, using the photos as reference, created this amazing life-like watercolor portrait of a Kamloops Rainbow. ARTIST'S COMMENTS: "Fly fishing is a passion of mine. For me it is the atmosphere combined with the art. When you fish you explore an entire realm that we are otherwise unexposed to and would not encounter; an ecosystem full of odd and wonderful life. It's probably good that I don't make a living painting these type of paintings as I would never paint another human figure. I love it that much."

04 - Goldilocks

 Here's the classic illustration of Goldilocks pondering her three bowls of porridge. "This one's too hot. This one's too cold . . . and this one is just right . . ." ARTIST'S COMMENTS: This was used as a magazine illustration and it hung in our kitchen until i began getting requests for prints. I did the initial drawing in blue ball point pen."
